Reverend Amy DeBeck
Amy DeBeck, our acting minister

Amy comes to us after serving as the summer minister at Fairfax (for a second year.) Before that she spent several years in Maine, where she was the Director of Religious Education at the UU Society of Bangor from 2001 to 2004 and, prior to that, a homecare hospice chaplain.

Amy is a native Virginian who graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University before a long road led her to, and through, Bangor Theological Seminary. Amy was approved for Preliminary Fellowship as a Unitarian Universalist Minister in April of 2005, and in October, 2006, she was ordained to the ministry by our congregation.

She is married with two children and resides in Sterling, VA.

Karen Ward
Karen Ward, UUCL's Director of Religious Education

In the summer of 2006, Mrs. Karen Ward was chosen from among the qualified candidates to be our Director of Religious Education for UUCL.

Karen grew up in Syracuse, New York but has lived in Loudoun County for over 10 years. She left the High Tech field and has happily operated a very popular home-based childcare for the past 10 years. Karen has taught preschool classes and served on the Religious Education Committee for over 3 years. She lives in Leesburg with her husband of 23 years, 2 children, and 3 large dogs.

So many things are beyond our control, but we can deal with some practical issues like life insurance, advance care directives, wills, and maybe even burial wishes. Being aware of death can be a reminder that we must live life fully, express our love, and never postpone the important stuff.
