The Unitarian Universalist Church of Loudoun can not operate without the time and talent of its members. To this end, the church has several committees and groups that met on a regular basis to conduct the business of the church.
UUCL is rich in its diversity and that richness is evident in the work completed by the committees and groups of the church. For an overview and contact information for each committee or group you may scroll down the page or use a link at the left.
UUCL is democratically run by its membership, who elect and appoint the leadership according to the By Laws of the church.
The Board meets monthly with our minister at the church. All are church members and friends are welcome to attend. Meet and contact the Board Members. UUCL members and friends may view the most recent Board Meeting summary here. You can contact the Board President, Ricky Keech, at rkeech@uuloudoun.org.
Because UUCL has been a lay-lead congregation for most of its existence, the Worship Committee has had the responsibility to provide for the service every Sunday. Even though we are not a large congregation, we are a very theologically diverse one. The Worship Committee has worked to provide diverse services that provide spiritual nourishment and inspiration to the all in the congregation.
With advice from church staff, committees and other segments of the congregation, the committee is responsible for establishing themes and engaging leaders/speakers from within and outside our congregation to lead our worship. The committee also recommends to the board and administers a budget for stipends to the speakers and musicians.
Over the years UUCL has developed a set of rituals and a service format that has become important to the congregation and to members' sense of belonging. The Worship Committee has used this a base to guide the types of services scheduled and the way the services are conducted. Peggy Fallon is the contact person for this committee.
This committee works with the Religious Education Coordinator to select curriculum, coordinate between Worship Committee and RE teachers, and set policy when necessary.

Social Action Committee
UUCL's Social Action mission is mighty: to create an inclusive multicultural religious community that promotes health, justice, peace, liberty and cooperation in Loudoun County, our nation, and the world.
In practical terms, we meet monthly to organize and promote activities that will help create change in our congregation and local community. For example, forming teams to help clean roads of trash, help at local food banks, glean apples from nearby orchards or participate in demonstration marches.
The committee also reviews and selects opportunities to contribute money from our budget towards social causes. To a lesser extent, we work on national and international efforts that promote our mission and values. For more information, to volunteer to help, or offer a suggestion, please contact the Tony DeCamp or Mary Lazar or visit our Social Action page.
The membership committee is a critical part of our outreach. The membership committee supports growth in UUCL by helping newcomers make connections, introducing UU ideals, and promoting membership. Contact Sheldon Pratt for more information and meeting time and location.
The Caring Committee's goal is to respond to the perceived needs for counseling in our community. Interested church members, who later became known as the Caring Committee, met with our consulting minister for some training in confidentiality and knowing when to call for professional help.
One of the hardest parts about providing this kind of pastoral care to each other is knowing when it is needed. If you know of a situation where you or a member of our community could use some help, either practical or just providing a compassionate ear, please contact the Caring Committee. For more information, to volunteer to help, or offer a suggestion, please contact the committee chair at caring@uuloudoun.org.
It has been long been accepted that the UUCL had little in the way of vocal talent. Well, that has all changed! The UUCL Choir has added welcome dimension to services at our little sanctuary.
The Choir works together with the Worship committee and speakers to introduce hymns and appropriate secular music into services about twice a month. Inter-Generational services are especially fun for the children who become part of the Choir and sing for the congregation. And we can't forget the wonderful in-house pianists, guitarists, and drummers who provide beautiful accompaniment. Please contact Gerri Rollins for more information.
WomenSpirit, the UUCL Women's Spirituality Group meets once a month, usually on a Friday evening at the church, where we sit on the floor, light candles and share goodies. Sometimes we have a previously announced agenda, sometimes not, it depends on the current needs of the women.
It's a time for us to share what it is to be a woman and help each other in our times of need. A time that we can just kick back and relax in a safe place with friends who often have, "been there, done that". A few hours of escaping our daily responsibilities go a long way. For more information, to volunteer to help, or offer a suggestion, please contact Peggy Fallon.
