Our Mission: As a spiritually liberal congregation, we honor the wisdom of many traditions. Through stewardship and outreach we treasure community, welcome diversity, and advocate for social justice. We foster and encourage lifelong learning through religious education and spiritual enrichment in a safe and nurturing environment. We extend love and compassion to our members, friends and the community at large.

Our Congregation

2011 Congregation

Although we started as a small lay-led congregation, UUCL has since grown to employ the services of a half-time UU minister. Sermons are given by our members, guest speakers and by our co-ministry team Reverends John Manwell and Phyllis Hubbell. Worship services often encompass the musical offerings of our choir and performances by guest artists.

We encourage a diversity of spiritual views, operate democratically, and invite members to participate in services and enlighten us with insights from their spiritual journeys.

UUCL was founded in 1990. Our original members met at local schools and buildings until 1999, when the congregation purchased and renovated the AME Methodist Church on Gleedsville Rd. in Leesburg, Virginia. To read more about our history click here.

Our members and friends meet on Sundays, and often during the week for various congregation activities, in a small, charming chapel built late in the 19th century by the descendants of freed slaves. The sanctuary retains many of its original features, including German siding and French Gothic windows.

Members and friends of the congregation (who have the password) may wish to view and download board meeting minutes, church business forms, including the most recent Membership Directory from the Members Area.

Love is the Spirit of this Church. The quest for truth is its sacrament.

To dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in freedom, and to help our neighbors,

To these ends, we covenant, one with another.
